Project Highlights

  • Students take on the roles of medical scientist, public health advisor, and community health workers
  • Students are introduced to one of 3 fictional diseases
  • Students research disease management solutions and create a presentation of recommendations for an audience of government officials.

10th Grade Water Quality Awareness

Essential question

What impact does water quality have on your health and on the health of your community?


Project Highlights

  • New project for the 2022-23 school year
  • Students tested their home water with testing kits
  • Students learned about various water contaminants and policies around water
  • Students went on a field trip to the Tillman Water Treatment plant
  • Students will create a presentation about what they learned

Essential question

What is the health messaging in our community and how does it impact healthy choices?

Project Highlights

  • Students conduct a community walk to identify direct and indirect health messaging
  • Students determine a health messaging issue in their community
  • Students attend lectures at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and learn from experts in the field
  • Students write a research report analyzing the messaging, its effects on the community, and write a call to action
  • Students present their findings to community members

Essential question

How can we, as medical device sales representatives, use our knowledge and expertise of centrifuges to sell a medical device?


Project Highlights

  • Students take on the role of medical device sales representatives
  • They learn about the physics that makes centrifuges work
  • Students will present to potential "clients" about what centrifuge is best for the client's needs
